Through a transaction in late 2013, NECA purchased a majority ownership to Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc. (“EPE”), granting NECA the property ownership and management rights to Graceland, Elvis Presley’s home in Memphis, Tennessee, in partnership with ABG and the Presley family. Graceland recently captured the #1 spot on USA Today and 10Best's "Best Iconic American Attractions." In addition to Graceland and its related attractions in Memphis, which include the Heartbreak Hotel, EPE is actively involved in worldwide licensing programs, merchandising, music publishing, as well as television, film, video and Internet projects. NECA’s expertise with and connections in the entertainment industry provide EPE with a distinct strategic advantage. NECA’s partnership with ABG and the Presley family also provides NECA with access to the intellectual property associated with one of the most widely recognized and beloved entertainers in the world, including the rights to major Elvis themed events such as Elvis Week, an international celebration of Elvis' life and legacy.
NECA’s retail consortium grew significantly in 2014, with the acquisition of retail chains Hastings and MovieStop, LLC as well as full-service distributor SP Images by Drawing Perfect Circles, LLC, a synergistic enterprise fully owned by NECA president Joel Weinshanker. Through opportunities within this entertainment group, properties benefit from enhanced offerings across multiple distribution channels and markets. Founded in 1968, Hastings is a leading multimedia entertainment retailer operating 125 superstores averaging 24,000 square feet and an e-commerce website. MovieStop is a leading value retailer of new and used movies currently operating 42 destination locations primarily along the Eastern United States Coast. SP Images is a full service distributor of sports-themed licensed collectibles, memorabilia, retail trading cards, entertainment cards, supplies, collectible card games and more from hundreds of top-level manufacturers.
In late 2014, urban vinyl icon Kidrobot was purchased by a wholly owned subsidiary of NECA. The globally recognized creator of designer vinyl toys was restored to its position as an artist-run company, and proceeds under the creative direction of Frank Kozik, renowned graphic artist and creator of the Labbit urban vinyl toy line. Founded in 2002, Kidrobot is acknowledged worldwide as the premier creator and dealer of limited edition art toys, signature apparel and lifestyle accessories. Kidrobot offers not only a powerful medium for today’s international fashion designers, illustrators and graffiti artists, but also the creative canvas for emerging street trends and pop art.
WizKids, a wholly owned subsidiary of NECA, is a New Jersey-based game developer and publisher dedicated to creating games and collectible miniatures driven by imagination. WizKids first pioneered the Combat Dial system featured in HeroClix, the leading collectible miniatures game on the market, with over 500 million miniature game figures sold worldwide. WizKids continues to produce new proprietary game platforms and properties including the award-winning fantasy board game Mage Knight, the groundbreaking Dice Building Game engine used in the critically-acclaimed game Quarriors and the newly launched and critically acclaimed Dice Masters platform featuring characters from Marvel, DC Comics, Dungeons & Dragons, and Yu-Gi-Oh!, as well as its widely hailed execution of Star Trek: Attack Wing.
